The Basics

What: Trevor Rees-Jones Merit Badge Camp

When: Sunday June 16 - Saturday June 22, 2024

Where: TRJ is hosted at Clements Scout Ranch, a scenic 3 hours drive from Houston (11217 FM 2970, Athens, Texas 75751)

Travel:

  • Transportation will be the responsibility of the scouts families for drop off on Sunday (by XXXXam) and pickup on Saturday morning (between XXX and XXX).

  • No early departures will be allowed unless arrangements are made prior to camp with the Camp Master.

  • Carpooling is allowed as long as YPT is observed.

  • If you plan on riding your bicycle, you are responsible for transportation of that bike.

You MUST check-in with the Campmaster when arriving and leaving camp.

Fees:

Estimated total cost is $400 for scouts and adults.

  • $200 deposit for scouts

  • $200 deposit for adults

No scout is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. Inquiries regarding financial aid can be made to W.C. Smith (wc.smith@troop54htx.com), or Alan Clark (tcc@troop54houston.org).

Packing Information:

  • Average temperatures at TRJ over the past 9 years have been highs around 95 and 80 at night.

  • BSA Summer Camp Packing List

  • If you plan to take and use a bicycle, you must bring a helmet.

Activities

Intended for both new and tenured Scouts, TRJ offers exciting activities including:

  • Horseback riding

    • Scouts will get to enjoy trail rides, age-appropriate events at the rodeo and the opportunity to earn Horsemanship Merit Badge.

  • ATVs

  • Canoeing

  • Fishing

  • Climbing

  • Rappelling

  • Archery

  • Rifle shooting

  • Shotgun shooting

  • 60+ merit badges with more being added as staffing allows, including a Trail to First Class Program!

Also, bicycles are allowed but require the use of a helmet at all times.

  • Scouts must pass a bicycle safety course on Sunday before using their bike.

  • Scouts are responsible for transportation of their bikes to and from camp.

Prerequisites

Scouts

  • No minimum age or rank required.

  • If you are taking a bicycle, you must pass a bicycle safety course on Sunday at camp before using the bike.

Adults

All training is available through your myscouting.org account:

  • BSA Registered 

  • Current YPT (Youth Protection Training) certification

  • Assistant Scoutmaster Training (completed before the beginning of camp)

  • Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS), Scoutmaster Specific

  • Safety Afloat Training

  • Hazardous Weather Training

Adult Leaders Needed

Adult Leaders Signup: Contact Campmaster Brett Wolfson at brett@wolfson.cc to volunteer for one/multiple jobs below:

  • Transportation Coordinator - coordinates carpools to and from TRJ

  • Safety & Medical/Forms Collection - collects medical forms, administers first aid/medications and enforces safe practices

  • Merit Badge Coordinator - helps campers with MB selections

  • Treasurer - keeps record of expenses incurred prior to and during trip

  • Cracker Barrel Coordinator - responsible for selection and sourcing non-perishable items for cracker barrel (evening snack)

We also need one adult in camp for each five scouts attending. So please join us if you can!
