The Basics

What: Troop 54 Campout at McKinney Falls State Park

• McKinney Falls State Park Information

Where: McKinney Falls State Park, located at 5808 McKinney Falls Pkwy, Austin, TX 78744

• Facilities: water, restrooms, showers

When: Friday, April 12th

• Departure Friday, April 12 from St. John the Divine (2450 River Oaks Blvd, 77019) via vans

  • Van seats are first come first serve for max of 8 scouts in the vans and 1 goat driver, REGISTER EARLY

  • Assemble at St. John Divine on River Oaks Blvd at 4:30pm

  • Departure 4:45pm SHARP, DON'T BE LATE!

  • Bring a dinner and drink in a leak-proof container to eat on the van ride to camp

• Return Sunday, April 14 at troop warehouse at 5936 S Loop E Fwy, Houston, TX 77033 via vans

  • Return at approximately 11:30am (actual ETA will be sent-out on day of travel)

  • Tiger Patrol has load-out / load-in duty for this campout

    • Load-out is on Wednesday, April 10 at 7:00pm at the warehouse.

• If you plan to drive separately, please indicate your approximate arrival date/time. Scouts are NOT allowed to drive themselves to a campout. Please let the Campmaster know if your drop off or pickup dates/times will be different.

You MUST check-in with the Campmaster when arriving and leaving camp.

Fees:

• Van Riders

  • $45 for scouts riding in the van - Only 8 spots - Register Early!

  • $0 for the ONE adult driving the van (if you are driving the van, you will get your $30 refunded)

• Car Riders

  • $30 for scouts carpooling (not riding in the van)

  • $30 for adults carpooling or driving themselves

No scout is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. Inquiries regarding financial aid can be made to W.C. Smith (scoutmaster@troop54houston.org), or Alan Clark (tcc@troop54houston.org).

• FTC Skills:

  • Sat am:  Map / compass Navigation and 5 Mile Hike (SC 3a-3c), SC4- look for 10 animals on hike, FC 5a - look for 10 plants on hike 

  • Sat pm: Navigation SC 3d, Drug & Alcohol Talk 7c, Tenderfoot Fitness Test 6a or 6c.

  • We'll also offer Open FCT for scouts who have already met the requirements above.

• Current YPT (Youth Protection Training) certification

• 1 Van Driver (sign up and pay $30 for “Adult, Van” and we will refund you when the Campmaster confirms)

• 1 Grub Master 

• 2 Asst Grub Master 

• 1 Roll Call 

• 1 Health & Safety

• 1 Trailer Pull (must have a truck with a trailer hitch).  Ideally they will leave earlier than the rest of the troop.
