You will get a confirmation email when you have successfully registered.
The Basics
What: Camp Emerald Bay
When: Saturday July 20 - Saturday July 27, 2024
Where: Camp Emerald Bay, Catalina Island, California (1 Cove Road, Avalon, CA 90704)
Travel:
We will most likely be flying direct to LAX (Los Angeles) or possibly SNA (Santa Ana).
If you plan to arrange your travel separately, please note this in the checkout form.
You MUST check-in with the Campmaster when arriving and leaving camp.
Fees:
Estimated total cost is $1,800 for scouts and $1,600 for adults. (including flights)
$200 deposit for scouts
$200 deposit for adults

Activities
Camp Emerald Bay has two main programs for Scouts:
Traditional summer camp of 30 Merit Badges (all ages)
Merit badge camp scouts can also earn BSA Certifications (Sailing, Life Saving, etc.).
MBs with limited space:
Sailing
Rifle
Shotgun
Archery
Motorboating
Oceanography
Mid-Adventure trips (Age 14+)
Explorers (Bike, Hike and Canoeing treks with 2 overnight trips)
Canoe (Traveling around the island with 5 nights sleeping on the beach)
Ocean (Open water scuba, Advanced Open water)

Prerequisites
Scouts
No minimum age or rank for Merit Badge camp
Minimum of 14 years old for the mid-adventure camp
Adults
All training is available through your myscouting.org account:
BSA Registered
Current YPT (Youth Protection Training) certification
Assistant Scoutmaster Training (completed before the beginning of camp)
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS), Scoutmaster Specific
Safety Afloat Training
Hazardous Weather Training
Adult Leaders Needed
There are positions for adults that are not attending the camp, too - so tell your spouse or partner that they can help! Contact Campmaster Christi Megow at christi.megow@gmail.com to volunteer for one or more of the jobs listed below.
Positions that require camp attendance:
Air Travel - purchases and keeps tabs on flight information
Safety & Medical - administers first aid/medications and enforces safe practices
Merit Badge Coordinator - helps campers with MB changes at camp
First Class Trail/Board of Review - organizes FCT and BOA activities while at camp
California Land Travel - books bus for travel from California airport to USS Iowa and from USS Iowa to ferry
USS Iowa Coordinator - books USS Iowa overnight
Positions that DO NOT require camp attendance:
Medical Forms Coordinator - collects and verifies medical forms and information ahead of departure from camp
Merit Badge Registrar - registers campers for Merit Badges ahead of camp departure (before Saturday, July 20)
Note: this adult leader must attend Spring Leadership Training on zoom (or watch recorded meeting)
Treasurer - keeps record of expenses incurred prior to and during trip
Staff Gifts - purchase gifts for camp director, program director, merit badge director and ranger
Values Leader - organizes and supports values activities as described on page 16 of the Camp Emerald Bay Sunday Leaders Packet
